You will recall that St Mary's was often spoken of as a bridge between the Church of England and Rome and there was a long tradition of priests and people working and praying for union with the Holy See. You will also perhaps remember the late lamented Roderick Gradidge who always maintained that St Mary's was in truth a congregationalist body with no desire to be part of the wider Catholic church. Alas, it became increasingly apparent that Roddy was right; that St Mary's had for many years simply paid lip service to unity and that its bridge led only to a cul de sac of lacy comfort enveloped in a smog of incense in which people could hide from the call to unity. The reaction to Anglicanorum Coetibus was, for the most part, a nervous shuffling of birettas and a mute ingratitude that the Holy Father's generosity should have caused such embarrassment in Lower Belgravia. We pray with confidence however that Catholic truth shall finally triumph. “Et cognoscetis veritatem et veritas liberabit vos.”RWGPnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3144134833314575803.post-38639931461266937052012-04-23T22:16:04.656+01:002012-04-23T22:16:04.656+01:00Thanks for that.
